The first website reviewed and listed on Dweeky.com goes to About.Me. This great website was actually the inspiration for Dweeky.com. About.Me has an eclectic collection of people ranging from CEO’s to graphic designers, most calling themselves geeks.
Many of these technology and Internet geeks have businesses online, websites and blogs. One day I wondered how cool it would be to have a directory full of the web entities created by the members of About.Me. It then dawned on me that most Internet surfers would enjoy a one stop location where they could find only the best websites online.
I believe a very realistic number of 2000 websites is attainable and also a very good selection of websites to choose from. About.Me is one of those great websites.
About.Me is a central location for professionals and individuals to create their very own splash page. You can reserve your name and upload a photo for your background. You are then able to add personal information, contact numbers and links. Being creative with your splash page design is half the fun. There are hundreds of very unique designs that you can browse through.
The real beauty of About.Me is that this single online identity becomes a central location pointing visitors to all of your other online properties. One of the factors that really sold me on the website is that you are able to connect to your other online accounts including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, LinkdIn, Instagram, FourSquare and more.
Nice looking icons are created for each of your other services and once clicked a very cool smaller window will open with the feed from that website. Instagram will show your photos, Twitter shows your updates and YouTube will play your videos.
Another aspect of About.Me is that it provides you with an insight into your traffic history, who’s searching for you and what they are doing on your page. I was surprised to find that most visitors to my splash page check my Instagram photos more than anything else.
About.Me is great for browsing other splash pages as well. With a convenient link at the top of the page you can scroll through profile after profile. You’ll quickly find many people with your same interests and backgrounds. Be careful because you may find yourself spending an hour or two sifting though fellow geeks.
About.Me is free! You get to create a very professional splash page that will direct anyone to your other products and services. I highly recommend every web geek grab their own name before they’re all gone.
