I’ve chosen WhatIMade.com as my second entry into the Dweektory because it is one of those blogs so cool you have to ask yourself, “Why didn’t I think of that?” The design of this website is not even the really cool thing about it! The crafts it shows you how to make are totally awesome.
Scott Bedford uses a combination of funky illustrated machines along with some cool cartoons to entice you into at least taking a look at his blog. Once you begin delving into the website you’ll soon discover some really great “how to” posts on creating things that are extremely neat-o.
The latest post shown in the picture above shows the instructions on how to make a Steampunk Balancing Robot from Recycled Materials. A very unique craft that anyone could make.
Scott tries to post every week so the website is not something you’ll need to check on everyday for that latest idea or craft. Each post looks as though it would take well over a week just to illustrate and prepare for. You can tell many hours of devotion and sweat equity go into everything that is added to the website.
WhatIMade.com is so ultra cool it already won a few Webby Awards. You can subscribe to his feed and he’ll notify you when he’s posted something new that’s fun to make. You can also use the Find Stuff categories in the right sidebar to search out older projects by subject.
This personal blog is entertaining for adults and awesome for kids. Many of the projects look complicated because of the genius illustrations Scott has drawn but when you get down to the nuts and bolts they can be very easy to make. Spend an afternoon with your kid and see how many of the creations you all can make.
This blog is fun, fun, fun! Being a creative person and cartoonist I just want to drop everything I’m doing and create a blog just like this. Maybe one day I will. I highly recommend this blog to everyone, not only for the interesting crafts but for the design of the site and the fantastic illustrations.
It sounds like Scott is getting offers to make bigger and better things and his creations are now showing up in magazines. A book deal could also be in the works. Hop over to the website and stay connected to Mr. Bradford.
You Won’t Believe… What I made.
